Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Clinical Laboratory Technicians
Clinical Laboratory Science Professionals evaluate test results, develop and modify procedures, and establish and monitor programs to ensure the accuracy of tests. Some clinical laboratory scientists supervise medical and clinical laboratory technicians. Laboratory scientists in small labs perform many types of tests, whereas those in large labs generally specialize.
Medical lab technicians (aka clinical lab technicians) usually have an associate's degree and are supervised by lab technologists. Medical lab technologists (aka clinical lab technologists or clinical laboratory scientists) have a bachelor's degree and are nationally certified.
Ranked in the "Top 20 Best Jobs" in the Jobs Rated Almanac by Les Krantz, it states that CLS/MTs have expanded career options. Hospitals, reference and research labs, industry, and public health facilities all currently have open positions for qualified applicants.
Career opportunities for clinical laboratory professionals is excellent and will grow rapidly through the year 2016 as the continual advancement in medical knowldege hastens new testing methods and procedures as well as from advancements in bioengineering.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical lab technicians earned $32,120 in 2004. Medical lab technologists earned $46,600.

University of Cincinnati Online Clinical Laboratory Science - Bachelor of Science
This NAACLS accredited online program is designed for working professional Clinical Laboratory Technicians (CLTs) and Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs). Students will learn how to provide patient care by performing laboratory procedures that assist in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Topics include chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunology, toxicology, blood banking, and molecular procedures, as well as how to utilize laboratory information computer systems to analyze and transmit patient data. At the conclusion of the requisite online courses, students will complete clinical experiences in a clinical laboratory near their home.
This program also provides an excellent foundation for entry into professional or graduate school in one of many biomedical fields, or is excellent training for a career in biomedical research.
