Dental Assistant - Diploma
Kaplan College is proud to offer a Dental Assistant Diploma program that is market-driven with specific curriculum that best serves local employment needs. Our innovative curriculum offers hands-on training to help you develop the skills required to succeed on the job as soon as you graduate. In addition to office management and communications, records management and ethics, and an introduction to basic computer skills, you will have the opportunity to master skills in:
- Chairside assisting, including handling dental instruments, controlling infection, and planning treatment in the eight specialty areas of dentistry
- Handling dental emergencies, such as an abscessed tooth, alveolitis, or a broken tooth or prosthesis
- Identifying structures of the oral cavity, the different types of teeth, and universal codes for each tooth
- Performing dental radiology (if certified) and safety procedures
- Preventive dentistry, including coronal polishing, fluoride, and applying pit and fissure sealants
By completing this dental assistant program, students can gain the knowledge and skills needed to perform front and back office duties including patient preparation, chairside dental assisting, administering x-rays, insurance billing, accounts receivables, and more. This program is designed to help eligible students prepare for the Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) examination. Upon successful completion of the RDA exam, the licensed dental assistant may perform extended functions that include temporary restoration, periopacks, bases and liners, and orthodontic expanded functions. Graduates of this program also receive a radiology certificate recognized by the Dental Board of California, a Coronal Polish Completion Certificate, a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card, and an HIPAA Certificate.
Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography - Certificate
This diagnostic cardiac sonography program can prepare students for career responsibilities such as: obtaining echocardiographic images, performing measurements on the echocardiogram, and providing the physician with relevant information to make a diagnosis. This program also offers the opportunity for existing ultrasound technicians, EKG technicians, and other health care professionals wishing to expand their knowledge in this area to obtain advanced training and knowledge. Graduates of this program can seek entry-level positions as diagnostic cardiac sonographer or echocardiography technologist.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography / Ultrasound - Diploma
Kaplan's diagnostic medical sonography/ultrasound curriculum can prepare you to become a responsible member of the health team in a hospital, imaging center, or private facility. In this program, you can gain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform ultrasound scans of the: upper abdomen, pelvic area, superficial structures, and peripheral vascular system. In addition, the program's required clinical externship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on training and professional knowledge. Graduates of this program can seek entry-level positions such as: ABI technician, diagnostic medical sonographer, ultrasound technologist.
Diagnostic Vascular Sonography - Certificate
Kaplan's diagnostic vascular sonography curriculum can prepare students to assume responsibilities performing ultrasounds in a hospital, imaging center, or private facility. Some of these duties include:
- Explaining procedures and preparing patients for examination
- Obtaining vascular 2-D, color-flow, and spectral Doppler images
- Performing measurements on the images
- Providing the physician with relevant information to make a diagnosis
This program also offers the opportunity for existing ultrasound technicians and other health care professionals wishing to expand their expertise in this area to obtain advanced training and knowledge.
Medical Assistant - Certificate, Diploma
Students will gain the knowledge and skills that could allow them to seek entry-level employment in a physician's office, health management organization (HMO), clinic, rehab center, or other allied health care facilities. Students receive clinical and administrative course instruction, hands-on training with the latest medical equipment. and job placement assistance.
The program offers medical and clinical courses that can train you to assist the supervising physician with:
- Physical examinations
- Minor surgical procedures
- Administering injections
- Performing EKGs, venipuncture, and routine laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Preparing examining room instruments and equipment
- Recording vital signs

Medical Billing & Coding Specialist - Diploma
Kaplan's MBC diploma program will prepare students to seek various entry-level employment opportunities as medical billing and coding specialists in medical offices, medical clinics, hospitals, and other health care and insurance facilities. Students will learn many of the technical skills required of medical insurance coders and billers, including a wide variety of medical office, medical coding, and medical insurance billing skills. They will learn how to analyze medical records and assign codes that classify diagnoses and procedures; support assessment of clinical care; and support medical research activity in hospitals, physicians' offices, and other health care facilities.
This program offers a curriculum that can help you by providing classroom lectures and lab training in:

Medical Office Administration - Associate of Applied Science
The goal of the Medical Office Administration curriculum is to prepare you for employment in medical offices by providing you with the technical and management skills required by employers. You can have the opportunity to learn administrative and support functions to be proficient in medical environments.

Medical Office Specialist - Diploma
As a student of the Medical Office Specialist Diploma program, you will learn the skills specific to the needs of local health care practitioners. Through a unique blend of classroom instruction and hands-on lab training, you can receive an in-depth education in medical office administration including written and spoken communication, office administration, medical transcription, and medical office operations. Specific classes provide training in:
- Computer data entry of patient information, patient files, filing systems and records, and admission and discharge forms
- Filing insurance claims for both group and private practice insurance
- Medical coding using Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) and Diagnosis Related Group (DRG)
- Transcribing physicians' instructions

Patient Care Assistant/Technician - Diploma
A patient care assistant/technician can assist with the care of outpatients and inpatients suffering from a variety of diseases, injuries, and neurological and orthopedic problems. They may be called upon to walk patients to and from therapy with a gait belt, set up equipment for patient treatments, assist with community outings, and a variety of other duties. The required coursework in this program is approved for Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aid exams monitored by the State of California. Graduates of this program may pursue career opportunities such as: ER technician, EKG technician, patient care technician, home health aide, certified nursing assistant, unit /ward clerk, and rehab aide.

Vocational Nurse - Diploma
Combining classroom learning with hands-on clinical lab experience, our program can prepare students to deliver direct care to patients under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse. Graduates of this program can seek entry-level positions such as: acute care staff nurse, home health nurse, LVN (after passing state exam), long-term care charge or staff nurse, phlebotomy/blood bank nurse, and public school LVN/health clerk. Through the comprehensive education at Kaplan College, students can gain experience performing nursing duties that include:

This program is also designed to help eligible students prepare for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) for licensure as a vocational/practical nurse. The vocational nurse programs in North Hollywood, San Diego, and Vista are approved by the CA Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT).
X-Ray Technician / Medical Assistant Back Office
The curriculum for the x-ray technician/medical assistant back office program offers training in the fundamentals of becoming an x-ray technician in addition to the clinical theories and procedures of a well-run medical office. Your Kaplan College education combines classroom learning and hands-on clinical experience working with equipment and materials you may encounter on the job. You can prepare to undertake responsibilities such as performing chest, extremity, and torsoskeletal x-ray procedures, and a variety of back office medical assisting tasks.This program is also designed to help eligible students prepare for the California State Examination to secure a position as an x-ray technician. Graduates of this program can pursue entry-level positions such as: back office medical assistant, x-ray technician (limited permit), phlebotomist, darkroom technician, and back office lab assistant.
The X-Ray Technician/Medical Assistant Back Office and Radiologic Technology programs are approved to operate by the California Department of Public Health, Radiologic Health Branch.
